In 1997, the Navigation Department of China Siwei Surveying and Mapping was established. With the support of the designated government department, China Siwei cooperated with Toyota Group, Denso from Japan and Toyota Tsusho Corporation to jointly develop auto-purpose navigation systems matching with Chinese situations; Siwei was responsible for the development of the Chinese navigation maps.

In 1998, Successfully developed the first China navigable map prototype and accomplished road test methodology for in-vehicle navigation system.

In 2000, the first navigable map, which met international standards and complied with Chinese requirements, was developed. At the same time, large-scale and systematic tests for in-vehicle navigation systems were carried out.

In 2001, First obtained the permission of State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping to develop a commercial China navigable map database.

In 2002, Launched the first commercial navigable map in China; NavInfo established.

In 2003, NavInfo took part in the emonstration Project of Satellite Navigable Map Industrialization which was a unique navigable map project in the ational Satellite Navigation Application Event organized by NDRC. The purpose of this project was to establish a dynamic updating network system for navigable maps covering whole China.

In 2003, NavInfo was the first company to provide navigable maps that met the LBS service requirements of the Chinese market.

In 2004, NavInfo set up two Joint Ventures; the first one, Beijing NaviSystem Co. Ltd., was formed with the Japanese company Toyota Tsusho Corporation; the second one, Shanghai NAV2 (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., was formed with the American company NAVTEQ.

In 2005, Created high-level navigable map database covering Mainland China and built up large scale navigable map production and updating system.

In 2006 avInfohigh-quality navigable maps are fully used in in-vehicle navigation, portable navigation, Internet and LBS in the Chinese market.
